Recalling county’s farming heritage

The story of farming in Herefordshire is being recalled through an arts project.

Rural life and customs through the 1940s, 50s and 60s are being recorded by the Rural Media Company.

The company has been awarded a £50,000 Heritage Lottery Grant to compile the digital project, featuring real-life accounts from farmers and villagers, focusing on the Bromyard area.

Work on the project - called Fieldwork, The Bygone Days of Farming - begins after Easter and, when completed, will be available to future generations on the internet and DVD.

Jane Jackson, Rural Media Company director, believes the accounts could provide more than nostalgia.
