Relief for Landowners with others grazing their land

The RPA has recently confirmed that Landowners are not required to keep herd registers for grazier's cattle where Cattle Tracing System (CTS) links are in place.

The responsibilities of Landowners and graziers on cattle identification and registration have been made much simpler. Landowners have no need to keep farm records (Herd Registers) for animals which they are not required to become the registered keeper on the Cattle Tracing System (CTS) due to a valid CTS link being in place.

Andrew Bays of BCM commented "This removes a potential concerning obstacle for landowners who wish to have their land grazed by other's animals. Before this key amendment, there was a somewhat grey area as to whether the animals grazing on the land were actually the responsibility of the landowner to have entered onto their Herd Register etc. This makes abundant sense as there are many landowners with grazing land who do not have the ability to graze their land – and this will ensure that the traditional method of allowing others to graze the land will be able to continue".
