Republic of Ireland- Additional 50 million aid for pork industry.

50 MILLION EUROS..

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in Ireland has welcomed the supplementary 50 million euros, that has been awarded by the government to the fund for the major pork re-call.

In a speech to the Irish Parliament, Minister Smith said that, he intended to make a facility of up to 180 million euros available, to compensate producers and processors of pigs.

The minister confirmed, that he had been in talks with his counterparts in Northern Ireland, also that discussions were of a positive nature.

Estimates say that there could be as many as 600,000 pigs, involved in the meat re-call.

This was all put into place, before the news of the 21 beef farms that will also have to be compensated.
