Northumberland National Park is working in partnership with Kimmerston Riding Centre to offer a series of exhilarating, wild-country equestrian experiences in the spectacular hill country of the Cheviots this summer.
Ride-with-a-Guide takes advantage of stunning newly-mapped equestrian trails through the National Park which have been developed for keen riders with British Horse Society area representative, Susan Rogers. The 2-3 hour Ride-with-a-Guide event takes you across the tops of the hills to see never-to-be-forgotten views of Northumberland, down into hidden valleys to wander alongside crystal clear streams and with gallops through the heather and along high grassy tracks.
The venture with Kimmerston enables riders to enjoy a new, more challenging riding experience in the safe company of skilled Kimmerston guide, Dickie Jeffreys, and National Park Ranger, Tracy Hall. Reliable, forward-going mounts will be provided from the Kimmerston stables. A BHS approved establishment, Kimmerston is well known in the North East for providing exciting riding holidays and treks including rides through the waves along the Northumberland beaches.
“There’s no better way to see Northumberland National Park than from the back of a horse,” says Ranger Tracy, “it makes you feel part of the landscape. We’re really pleased to be working with a notable Northumberland business to give riders the opportunity to capture this experience.”
“To gallop on top of the cheviots is a never to be forgotten experience - you are on top of the world!” commented Jane Jeffreys of Kimmerston. “It’s great that the National Park have been working with the community to upgrade the available rides in some of our most inspiring countryside. The Ride-with-a-Guide route will complement Kimmerston’s open country ride programme, and with this event we hope to introduce new riders to the fundamental exhilaration of being on horseback with natural vistas as far as the eye can see.”
The inaugural Ride-with-a-Guide will introduce the Cheviot Challenge Riding Routes, which experienced riders may enjoy independently for day rides or riding holidays, together with some additional trails by private arrangement. The inaugural ride will start at 9am on Sunday 27th May 2007.
This is the first of what the National Park hopes will become a popular way of enjoying the hill country. There are several good stables in and around the National Park catering for all abilities which can be found on our website.
