Rural ministries set to be announced

There may not be any surprises when Kevin Rudd announces his new agriculture and trade ministers tomorrow.

Kerry O'Brien is keen to remain in the primary industries portfolio and Simon Crean has been enthusiastic in trade.

Veteran Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan says that, given Labor has few experienced rural politicians, it would be advisable to keep Senator O'Brien in position.

"I'd be a strong advocate for Kerry O'Brien to keep that portfolio," he says.

"I can't imagine anyone else that would have had the experience that he's had.
