Leningrad Region Remains One of the Leading Regions in Dairy, Meat Product and Egg Manufacturing

Agricultural organizations of Leningrad region take leading positions in chicken egg, meat and milk production sector of Russia, such data was published by Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) pursuant to results of two first months of 2009.

As 47News was reported in the Information Department of the regional government, egg production in agricultural enterprises totaled to 397.8 million eggs, up 6%, compared to the first two months of the previous year. The region is a leader in this sector of agricultural production, followed by Belgorod region.

The share of the region in chicken egg production by enterprises of Northwest Federal District amounts to 63.5%.

The region also leads the pack in terms of slaughter cattle and poultry production in the district. Total output of agricultural organizations for the first two months of 2009 was about 32 thousand tons of meat, up 9% from January - February 2008.

According to Rosstat data, milk production totaled to 84 thousand tons or about 39.3% of total milk yield of the aforementioned district. These rates helped the region to enter the list of six leading entities in dairy animal breeding of Russia.
