Rosselkhoznadzor to Impose Ban on Meat Imports from 3 American EnterprisesFederal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) lifted temporary restrictions imposed on supply of products from 5 American meat processing plants (18674, 9201, 18079, 18435 and 37398) to Russia on February 10, 2009 in a view of violations of Russian legislation.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of USDA had provided guarantees that in future the aforementioned enterprises would produce and export products in accordance with the corresponding Russian requirements.

Apart from that, the Agency’s press-service reports that officials of Rosselkhoznadzor’ Department for Primorye Territory detected 4 containers with boneless pork on board of the vessel bound for Japan, as it was said in the supporting documentation. In a view of absence of veterinary accompanying certificates, the department decided to inspect the cargo. During the examination it was detected that the boxes with Russian tags contained pork produced by US enterprises 17D, 17202A and 19246 in 2008. An additional inspection showed that according to the veterinary certificate specified in the packages’ stamp the products had been already shipped to Russia in July 2008.

Thus, Rosselkhoznadzor decided to impose temporary restrictions on product imports from the said American enterprises till the investigation for that matter is carried out.
