RUSSIA. IMPORTS OF LIVE CATTLE.

International visitors were in Harrison Wednesday, talking about Montana beef.

Russian visitors were at the Sitz Angus Ranch in Harrison to study Montana genetics.

The cattle industry in Russia is used primarily for dairy purposes, but its goal is to move more in the direction of meat production.

This past June on a trip to Russia, there was enough interest sparked that at least one Montana farm sold semen and embryos to the Russians. The interest finally grew big enough to motivate flying halfway across the world, to see for themselves these genetic accomplishments.

"I’m here because it is the best beef genetics in my view," Sergei Gorncharov said.

"I met ranchers from Montana when they visited me in my region, and I really liked visiting with them, and I felt trust and I considered coming here and looking at the possibility of purchasing cattle in Montana," Alexander Trafimov said.
