RUSSIA-BEEF PRODUCTION.

The number of cattle in Russia on March 31 was 21.8

million, 2.1% less than a year ago, the federal statistics service said

Tuesday.

The number of cows on the date fell by 2.2% on the year to 9.1 million. The

number of pigs increased by 4.1% to 17.1 million. The numbers of sheep and

goats increased by 2% to 22.5 million.

Total meat output in Russia in January to March, including cattle, pork and

poultry in live weight, increased by 11.4% on the year to 2.1 million tons.
