NEW PIG BREEDING COMPLEX.

The government of Russia appear to be in overdrive, in trying to reach the status of being self sufficient in pork and poultry production.

The new pig complex situated in Uralsky, has been receiving breeding pigs from Denmark since May of this year, the final delivery of 100 breeding gilts arrived this week. There are no 10,000 pigs in the complex all with excellent genetics of Danish origin, supplied by the Danish breeding company Porc-Ex.

State inspectors from the Frontier Veterinarian Supervision Department, in Kallingrad, refused entry to two containers of frozen pork from Norway last week. The new import regulations are quite clear that pork from Norway from licensed plants is allowed into Russia, it is not now permitted in that region of Russia, who are only allowed to sell local production.

The regulations in Russia change on a daily basis, there an increasing concern in the meat industry at the bribes that have to be paid on the border, to allow meat to passed through to its designated customers.

International companies, that have opened trading offices in St Petersburg or Moscow, tell you quite openly that, "It is impossible to operate in Russia, unless you employ at least one ex government official, preferably from the old KGB".
