Ryder makes foot and mouth disease compensation call
NORTH Wales Plaid Cymru AM Janet Ryder is calling on the UK government to re-think its lack of compensation to Welsh farmers following the recent foot and mouth outbreaks.
Although no cases were found in Wales, farmers' livelihoods have been badly affected because of the restrictions in moving livestock, the temporary closure of marts and animal export bans.
This has put a huge strain on an industry already suffering from low stock prices and competition from foreign food suppliers.
Janet Ryder AM said:"I am extremely disappointed with the way farmers in north Wales are once again being badly let down by the Labour government in Westminster.
