S Korea's agriculture deficit hits record high in 2007

South Korea's agriculture deficit reached a record high at 10.92 billion U.S. dollars in 2007 due to a sharp rise in global grain and feed prices, the state-run Agro-Fisheries Trade Corp. said on Monday.

In 2006, the country's agricultural trade deficit in 2006 was 8.68 billion U.S. dollars.

According to the Agro-Fisheries, the agriculture exports gained 10.2 percent to 2.40 billion U.S. dollars, while imports jumped 22.6 percent to 13.32 billion U.S. dollars.
