Schemes to woo youth to farm sector soon

PATHANAMTHITTA: Agriculture Minister Mullakara Ratnakaran said here on Saturday that the Government would formulate integrated programmes to attract youngsters to the farm sector.

Inaugurating the district-level farmers' sangamam and seminar, the Minister said that by attracting youths to the farm sector, higher employment generation and increased productivity could be achieved at one stroke. By formulating schemes such as vegetable cultivation to attract youth, the dependence on neighbouring states could be reduced.

In the long-run, the state could achieve self-sufficiency in agriculture production, he said.
