SCOTLAND.
DISPERAL OF SHORTHORN HERD OF CATTTLE.
What is perhaps one of the most famous Shorthorn herds of cattle in the United Kingdom, the Calrossie herd from Ross-shire, is being sold but the cattle will remain in Scotland.
The herd was founded 50 years ago by Captain John MacGillvrey, who was affectionately known as the "Shorthorn King" and a member of the Shorthorn Breed Society for many years.
The herd was taken over by his son Donald MacGillvrey, who will retain the nucleus of the herd at Calrossie, while the rest of the herd are being sold to another prominent breeder.
Captain Gillvrey, was twice elected the president of the Shorthorn Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
