Scotland-Hospitals buy local meat.

UNITED KINGDOM.

HOSPITALS BUY LOCAL.

The hospitals in Scotland are now going to source only locally grown food products to serve to patients and staff.

The NHS Board will source meat that is assured by the Scottish Farm Assured scheme, which will be of benefit to local farmers and producers.

The hospital board has been congratulated by Dr Bill Wilson MSP, who is a member of the Scottish Parliament’s Rural and Environmental Committee.

Wilson went on to say, " The picture of NHS Boards procuring meat from locally produced sources, is encouraging in such uncertain economic times". This is also good news for the 20,000 red meat companies in Scotland, as the NHS spend more than six million pounds a year on meat.
