Seven new young brains enter the pig industry through scholarship
The scholarship scheme aimed at attracting and retaining the best young brains in the pig industry has attracted another seven students.
The seven, from Harper Adams University, will join their sponsoring companies in the summer for a 12-month placement.
They were all at Harper Adams for a presentation event to celebrate their achievement and that of the returning scholars.
Two of the 2013 scholars were awarded final-year funding and will be returning to their sponsoring companies on graduation.
Pig Industry Scholarship chairman Nick Major, of ForFarmers, awarded certificates of achievement to scholars and said: “It’s great to be at Harper Adams University celebrating the success of the pig industry scholars in what is now the third year of the initiative.
“It is vital for the future of the industry that we are able to attract highly skilled and motivated people into it and this scheme has already helped achieved that objective.
“I would also like to thank the sponsoring companies, without whom we would not be able to offer these excellent opportunities.”
The scholarship has provided a wide range of career opportunities across the pig industry to Harper Adams students. Companies wanting further information about offering a scholarship should contact Sam Bowsher on 024 6747 8801 or email Samantha.bowsher@ahdb.org.uk
