Shires power their way to Sacrewell

Standing at a height of 18 hands (or 6 foot) and weighing near enough one tonne, Lucy - the Shire horse has officially been handed over to Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre by the Shire Horse Society today.

Lucy is the first Shire horse of hopefully many to be re-homed at Sacrewell Farm, which in partnership with the Shire Horse Society will develop a breeding ground and training centre to help secure the breed's future existence amongst the next generation of Shire horse owners.

Andrew Mercer, Chief Executive of the Shire Horse Society, said, 'This is an extremely exciting development for the Shire Horse Society, which in partnership with Sacrewell Farm and Country Centre, will help promote the virtues of this magnificent breed to the many thousands of visitors the centre attracts, whilst providing a training ground to encourage ownership'.

It is hoped that other Shire horses in need of re-homing, including a mother and foal and working horses, will join Lucy at Sacrewell later on in the year.
