Soils Directive - will they or won’t they?
The French presidency is due to make a decision today on whether to launch a second bid for agreement on the Soils Directive in Council after months of uncertainty and procrastination. There has been some activity in the corridors of Paris, but so far nothing has been presented at a European level. The Directive was shelved last December after the UK, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and France could not sign up to a compromise tabled by the then presidency, Portugal. Meurig Raymond has written to all UK MEPs to reiterate our opposition to this superfluous piece of legislation and BAB is meeting with key MEP leaders ahead of a debate in Parliament on Thursday on the subject.
