South Africa-Shortage of laying hens.
SOUTH AFRICA.
POULTRY PROBLEMS.
The liquidation of the largest hatchery in Swaziland, has left poultry farmers without a constant supply of laying hens it has been reported.
The Kharfi Trading Company, went bankrupt in December and they were suppliers of poultry feed, pullets and day olds to the region.
Chairman of the Egg Producers Association, Alson Dlamini, said that most of their 100 members now had no regular supplier.
He went on to say that while they have been in negotiations with other suppliers from further a-field, these companies are asking a cash up front as a deposit, before entering into any agreement.
The industry is now feeling the pinch and without a solution egg production is going to suffer.
