South American leaders, slammed the farm subsidies of the EU and USA, stating that subsidies were the key cause of the global food crisis.

The seven counties in Merosur, who are the common market of Latin America and include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bolivia and Paraguay.

The United Nations has warned the number of starving people around the world, could rise from 800 million to 860 million.
