Southern Africa-Government of Angola to invest in Farming.

The Angolan government will invest, as from this year, USD 300 million in programmes to boost agriculture nationwide, with view to combat hunger and poverty, until 2012.

The information was disclosed by the deputy minister of Agriculture, José Amaro Taty, during the inauguration ceremony of the Agrarian Development Station (EDA), in Caconda district, situated at 230 kilometres from Lubango city, capital of the southern Huíla province.

According to the official the amount shall be spent on purchasing agricultural implements such as ploughs, tractors, hoes and other working tools for animal drafting, and the rehabilitation of infrastructures of the sector that will benefit farming families of the country’s 18 provinces and that is aimed to increase cattle-raising production.

The deputy minister stated that for this purpose actions shall be carried out with agricultural mechanisation firms, including associations and cooperatives working with families, enabling the supply of a proper activity in these fields.

He called for the population’s engagement when planting cereals, citrus fruit and vegetables, to contribute significantly to the combat to poverty.
