Spitzer stumps for Agriculture

Governor Spitzer continues to try to gain support for his Upstate Revitalization Plan, he's even hand feeding cows the proposal.

"Times are tight. I think everybody knows that, we have a budget deficit of $4.5 billion, but what I have said first and foremost is getting this billion dollar fund enacted, it is necessary for the Upstate economy," said Governor Spitzer.

The Governor told dozens of farmers that if lawmakers approve the proposed budget that includes the $1 Billion Upstate Revitalization Fund, $50 Million is slated to go to the Agriculture Industry.

"When we build for the future when we invest in New York State's future we are investing in a future that will help you succeed," said Spitzer.

According to Spitzer's office, the Ag Industry generates more than $3.6 billion for New York's economy each year. The state ranks in the nations top three in producing several products including milk, maple syrup, and apples.

"Agriculture really is the backbone of our state and we should never forget that," Spitzer added.
