Stepping out to help the environment

Farmers, conservationists and councillors are heading into the Norfolk countryside on Saturday (24 September) to discuss how farming can help the local environment. Stody Estate owner Ian MacNicol and his farm manager Ross Haddow are hosting a farm walk for local councillors and members of the River Glaven Conservation Group. Local farmers including NFU county chairman George Harcourt will be there to explain current farming practices, and to learn more about the environmental needs of this important river catchment. Around five miles of the Glaven flow through the estate and a number of projects have been undertaken to improve the river habitat. Mr Haddow said: "We are expecting more than 50 people to attend the farm walk on Saturday. This will be a useful opportunity to outline how farmers are working to help the environment but also to discuss what else can be done to conserve vital habitats such as the Glaven."
