Stress on farm planning for sustaining agriculture

CHENNAI: Speakers at a recent training programme on the role of NGOs in rural regeneration through agriculture focussed on farm planning as the key to sustaining agriculture.

Farm planning should be a key for sustainable agriculture, P.N. Vedanarayanan, retired bureaucrat, told the valedictory session of the training programme for CEOs and decision-makers of NGOs, conducted by the National Agro Foundation at its Centre for Rural Development. Recalling the efforts of former minister C. Subramanian in promoting agriculture, he stressed the need to increase agricultural productivity with the aid of technology so as to feed the ever-increasing population.

The training programme, supported by NABARD, was aimed at sensitising the decision makers to sustainable agro-based micro enterprises to be propagated among self-help group members.

The two-day programme, held on January 10 and 11, was attended by CEOs of 19 NGOs from 10 districts.

R.I. Raghunathan, CEO, NAF, complimented the NGOs for their efforts.
