Strong trade at Bishops Castle auctions
An entry of 1,034 lambs met with a strong trade at the Christmas Fatstock Show and Sale held by auctioneers Halls at Bishops Castle Auction on Wednesday, December 14.
Although a little down on the highs of the last two weeks, lambs averaged 205p per kilo for the SQQ weighted lambs and 204p per kilo, including heavy weight lambs.
The show classes were judged by Mr Richard Edwards of Llanfair Caereinion, who awarded the prize for the champion pen of lambs to R. S. Adams, Foxholes with 42 kilo lambs at ’105 per head. He also won the 38 to 43.5 kilo class. Reserve champion was B. Williams, Hill End, with 42kilo lambs at ’88 per head.
Other prizewinners were Up to 37.5 kilos, 1, G. M. Hudson and Son, Mainstone; 2, R. S. Adams, Foxholes. 44 kilos and over, 1, C. J. Davies and Sons, Amblecote.
Leading prices were: 250p per kilo for 42 kilo lambs from R. S. Adams and Co, 232p per kilo for 37 kilo lambs from G. M. Hudson for, 217p per kilo for 39 kilo lambs from B.W. Gittins, Rhespass, 216p per kilo for 37 kilo lambs from R. S. Adams and Co, 213p per kilo for 42 kilo lambs from G. M. Hudson, 212p per kilo for 38 kilo lambs from B Williams, Hill End, 211p per kilo for 34 kilo lambs from E. G and S. A. Watkin, Pantyfalog, 210p per kilo for 42 kilo lambs from B Williams and 209p per kilo for 35 kilo lambs from A. Gwilliam, Gorsty Bank.
