Subsidy to increase pork weight in Philippines

The government of the Philippines has introduced a subsidy to farmers, in order to encourage them to fatten pigs to a heavier weight per carcass by 15-20 kilos per pig.

The national average of carcass weight is currently 77 kilos and the adding of the additional weight will increase meat production by 25 % with very little effort, as once you get the pig to that weight adding the additional kilos is not a major operation.

The National Bureau of Animal Industry and the National Meat Inspection Service will monitor the plan, that has been well received by farmers.
