Them and us attitude must go sheep farmers

Meat companies needed to shed their "them and us" mentality and work together, southern sheep farmers said.

Those spoken to yesterday expressed their disappointment over the failed partnership between Silver Fern Farms and PGG Wrightson, but said it now opened up the way for a possible merger with the Alliance Group.

Balfour farmer Owen Evans believed Alliance chairman Owen Poole’s concept of an 80 per cent mega meat company, which he launched earlier this year, was still the best option.
