Top UK beef farmer to speak at Welsh meetings

The National Beef Association (NBA) has teamed up with Farming Connect to offer four meetings in Wales next month, all including a presentation from award-winning Northern Irish beef farmer Sam Chesney.

Sam is the current Farmers Weekly Beef Farmer of the Year and runs a suckler herd of 150 Limousin crosses at Kircubbin, Co. Down, Northern Ireland. He is also actively involved in the beef supply chain through his role as Director of Strangford Down Co-operative, selling cattle and sheep and buying feed and other inputs for farmer members.

His interest in agricultural policy and regulations sees him represent farmers at DARD meetings on behalf of NBA Northern Ireland, while his commitment to technical efficiency means he is also an AgriSearch Board Member, Ulster Grassland Board Member and Young Farmer Ambassador.

On the farm his priorities include paddock grazing and a strong belief in the benefits of clover, as well as a commitment to herd health and driving down production costs – all making him a popular DARD Focus Farmer for other NI producers to pick up tips from at regular farm open days.
