Troon maximises return with low screenings

Troon will be the future spring-malting barley of choice for growers, say its breeders Nickerson.

Troon's good grain size and low screening losses enable growers to maximise return. In addition Troon has very high treated and untreated yields, stiff straw and good all round disease resistance.

It is already attracting significant interest from maltsters, brewers and distillers in the UK and abroad. And as many of the export barley markets determine a maximum 10% screening loss through a 2.5mm sieve, the boldness of Troon is a major advantage.

Provisionally recommended by the IOB for both the North and the South of the UK; in excess of 1000 tonnes of Troon are due to have malting, brewing and distilling evaluation carried out in the coming months.

Troon will be available to farmers in 2004.
