TV presenter scoops Farming Champion award

Popular TV presenter Adam Henson has been crowned the NFU Farming Champion of the Year at the annual Farmers Weekly Awards.

The Cotswolds farmer and NFU member picked up the prestigious accolade last night during a glittering ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House hotel. The award is given to an individual who has shown outstanding commitment to communicating farming to the public.

NFU President Peter Kendall said: "We have a great story to tell but we need people to tell it. That’s why Adam Henson is exactly the type of person this industry should celebrate. A man dedicated to agriculture - a down-to-earth, hard-working farmer, who runs a mixed arable and livestock farm as well as a rare breeds farm park that attracts 10,000 visitors every year. Farming is his passion; he cares for animal welfare, the environment and has a real commitment to farming’s place in society.

"Adam has also played a major part in bringing farming back to prime time television. Every week, an audience of more than six million tune in to see him on BBC Countryfile and witness the farming decisions and challenges he faces on a daily basis including his battle with bovine TB.

"As he’s championed the industry, Adam has helped farmers feel proud of what they do, shown why farming matters and why farming deserves the backing of the public. This industry needs champions and that’s why Adam Henson deserves this award."
