Two sheep have been savaged to death by an out-of-control dog in a country park in Torquay, Devon.

Cockington Country Park has a flock of sheep grazing on Dew Park field. On Tuesday (July 25), they were attacked by a dog.

One sheep died due to the severe attacks and another had to be put down due to the severity of the injuries.

A fence leading to the field was badly damaged as a result of the attack.

The country park is managed by the Countryside Trust, they're appealing for anyone with information to come forward and speak.

A spokesman from the wildlife trust said: "We were concerned to discover this morning (25th July) that our flock of sheep grazing Dew Park field in Cockington Country Park were attacked by a dog since they were last checked late yesterday.

"From what we can ascertain, the sheep flock was attacked by an out-of-control dog and panicked into breaking down a fence to escape from the park. The flock then fled on to the Old Totnes Road and down towards Warren Barn.

"So far we have discovered one sheep dead in the stream below Manscombe Woods, one so seriously injured that it will have to be put down and another single animal loose but unharmed.

"Since the attack, the rest of the flock somehow returned safely to the paddocks at Occombe Farm; either finding their own way or with someone’s help.

"We are asking anyone who has any information about this incident to contact the Trust as soon as possible, so we can try to prevent any more animals being harmed or killed."
