UK breeding sheep for Romania

A number of UK sheep breeders who attended a major show in Romania have already received firm orders for 2,000 breeding sheep.

Seventeen UK breeders representing eight breeds attended the Indagra show in Bucharest, co-ordinated by the Meat and Livestock Commission, and the orders received so far include a deal for 1,000 Texel ewes and another for 100 Hampshire rams.

MLC export manager Jean-Pierre Garnier said they were delighted with the orders. "They represent a breakthrough for UK sheep farmers and have been achieved despite the setbacks of foot-and-mouth and bluetongue disease, and are a testament to the value of collaboration in the livestock sector."
