According to reports on the newswires and in the market, Tesco have already put Wal-Mart the worlds biggest retailer on the defensive in the Unites States, since opening 100 stores there one year ago.

The smaller Fresh & Easy convenience stores, have been a hit with shoppers and the very sophisticated data recording and logistics of Tesco, apparently give them a huge advantage over rivals.

Tesco is unrivalled in the United Kingdom with 34% of market share, which is nearly double that of ASDA the Wal-Mart group.

The current growth rate will probably take them to the number two position in the world after Wal-Mart and replacing Carrefour, who are presently number two in the world of food retailing.
