SUPERMARKETS GO HALAL.
The National Halal Meat Company, based in Birmingham now has franchises for halal meat operating in Asda and Tesco supermarkets.
The company announced last week, that they are opening 40 more butchery outlets in 2009, for Tesco and Wal-Mart, the owners of Asda.
The National Halal Company, which is family owned by the Yaqoob family, is the oldest Halal retail butchering company in England today.
The company began in the old Birmingham meat market in the sixties, then took over Armour’s abattoir in Bishop St, right behind the Bull Ring in the city center, when the meat market and slaughtering facilities close in 1974.
