Pasty firm’s beef over sausage stall
Plans for a new food stall in Bath have been met with strong opposition from businesses in the area.
An application has been submitted to Bath and North East Somerset Council for a stall selling hot food and cold drinks.
The stall in New Bond Street, formerly an ethnic clothing stand, would be run by The Hot Sausage Company.
If the application is approved, the stall would serve food and drink between the hours of 9am to 6pm every day.
But businesses operating close to the stand have objected to the proposal, which they say will directly impact on their sales.
The West Cornwall Pasty Co, which runs a store in Burton Street, and which has recently been refused permission for a display board at the same spot is one of the companies to oppose the application.
It previously persuaded the council to reject plans for a jacket potato stall at the same spot.
Diane Leahy, who works for the company, said in a letter to the council: "The sale of hot food in close proximity to our premises will have an impact on our sales.
"The Hot Sausage Company, being a direct competitor, selling hot food and drinks, in the current economic climate, could have a disastrous effect on our business."
The application will be decided at a meeting of the B&NES Licensing Sub-Committee on Tuesday.
