UNITED KINGDOM.
FARM ACCIDENTS.
Farm workers in Dorset in the South West of England, have been warned to take extra care in the winter months with less daylight, as this is the time of the year most farm accidents occur.
The Health and Safety Executive Board (HSE), warned that agriculture remained one of the main areas most dangerous for accidents in British industries
Board member Judith Donovan, said " It is unacceptable that almost every week someone dies in a farm accident, these accidents continue to happen year after year".
The figures for farm accidents in 2007-2008, were released last week and there were 39 deaths on farms, which makes a total of 455 deaths in the last 10 years.
There were 291 major accidents and 451 accidents that caused time off work. This was compounded by 1,235 minor reported accidents, which is costing the industry around 35 million pounds a yearUS$47.5 million.
While the agricultural industry only accounts for 1.5% of the working population, it accounts for 15% of the fatal accidents. The worse counties for farm accidents for now apparent logical reason appear to be Devon and Dorset.
