GLOBAL PORK PRODUCTION UP.

Global pork production for 2008 was a staggering 93 million tons, this was an increase of 2.4% on 2007.

The majority of this increase was in Brazil, China and the United States, however Russia and Thailand are becoming important players.

There has been a down turn in Canada with the sow cull, and Denmark has lost its leading place in Europe to Germany, in the last year.

Growth is not expected to grow in the first half of 2009, with the reduction in so many pig herds, caused by high feed prices and low sales prices.

This is however expected to turn around in the second half of the year, as the herd numbers increase again.
