United Kingdom-Kendal Monthly Pig sale.

CROWDS of people gathered for a monthly pig sale in South Lakeland which saw strong demand in all sections and prices exceeding expectations.

Kendal Auction Mart witnessed a hectic and varied day for Wednesday’s event, and despite entries being down on the previous month, support was still very strong from buyers, sellers and spectators.

Margaret Cardwell, ofrom North West Auctions, said: "A large variation of categories and less weaners and store pigs meant demand was strong in all sections and prices met and often exceeded sellers expectations."

In all there were 42 pigs put forward. Prices for in-pig sows reached £116, while for geld sows it was £107. Porkers reached £95, store pigs £44, and Weaners £28.

Next month’s sale will be on Tuesday, April 7, at 1.15pm.
