NEW LAWS FOR CALVES UNDER 8 MONTHS OF AGE.

The Food Standards Agency (FTA), has announced the introduction of the new calf policy whereby calves under the age of 8 months are required when going for slaughter, to be accompanied by documentation from the farmers.

The new form known as the Food Chain Information (FCI) is the responsibility of the meat plant or slaughterhouse to obtain from the farmer, calves are not allowed to be slaughtered without this information

Kenneth Clarke, FSA Veterinarian said "The food chain information is an important part in the farm to fork approach to food safety, and encourages the slaughterhouse owners to use the guide lines that have been set down".

The most practical new application to date in any country, appears to be the micro chip implant, fired into the animals neck with a gun and this records everything about the animal from day one. This is the new system being applied in Brazil. It also doubles as security on cattle being stolen and requires no paperwork
