UNITED KINGDOM-PIG SLAUGHTER FIGURES.
The number of clean pigs that went for slaughter last month was 695,000 compared to 669,000 in February and 816,000 in January, which contained five weeks.
Last month and the month before, 16,000 sows and boars were sent for slaughter while in January, 19,000 went for slaughter.
The average carcase weights for clean pigs remain fairly stable at 77.8 kg, the February figure being 77.9 kg. The average slaughter weight for sows and boars, on the other hand, rose by a bit at 147.3 kg compared to 143.6 kg in February.
The UK’s overall pigmeat production totaled 56,000 tonnes in March compared to 54,000 tonnes the month before, 66,000 tonnes in January and 55,000 tonnes in December.
