United Kingdom-Supermarkets concerned about meat thefts.
UNITED KINGDOM..
Meat thefts from supermarkets-
The increase in the theft of meat from British supermarkets, has risen to such an extent that the major supermarkets are considering placing fitted electronic tags on the expensive meat cuts to thwart the shoplifters.
Somerfields have already put security measures in place, according to an article in the Independent and Iceland, Tesco and Marks & Spencer, are also reporting an increase in theft of meat.
A spokesman from the British Retailers Consortium Richard Dodd, said for 10 years supermarkets have been used to the pilfering of small items such as razor blades, this new turn of events, probably has something o do with the economic downturn.
This different from the theft of items to sell for material gain, this is similar to the nineteenth century and people stealing a loaf of bread to feed their children.
