United Kingdom-TB in Somerset.
Plans for a community farm in Somerset, have received a setback after a calf tested positive for Bovine TB.
Williton beef farmer Graham Bigwood had given the animal to his daughter as a pet.
Mr Bigwood has already seen his cattle herd cut to two thirds by the ravages of the disease.
Catherine, 15, said she was distraught when she heard the seven-month-old calf would have to be shot after contracting the disease.
Mr Bigwood said: "Farming is a way of life. I have to help my animals and they are my way of life."
Catherine Bigwood added: "She’s definitely not just another piece of meat. She’s my darling and I love her lots. I’m proud of her and I hope she has a nice life in heaven."
