THE united Kingdom had a huge harvest of wheat in 2008, with Russia and the Ukraine also having bumper harvests the EU was awash with wheat last autumn.

Canada had a good harvest and good yields and the United States made a rapid recovery from the flooding in Jun and July, however Argentina were 1 million tons under the projected harvest due to the drought conditions.

The forecast for the year 2008-9 are a bumper harvest globally of 682.9 million tons.

This is an increase worldwide if 12%,increasing amounts of wheat are currently required for food aid in sub Sahara Africa, which has meant that stocks are not unusually high, despite the record anticipated harvest.

Argentina and Brazil have already gathered in 90% of the harvest and will be planting soy, directly into the stubble, providing there are sufficient rains to soften the top soil.
