United States-Bad weather costs farmers.

UNITED STATES-BAD WETHER HITS FARMERS.

Cut Bank rancher Don Hartwell made it out to his cattle herd this afternoon and found no casualties.

"The cattle weathered the storm pretty good, but we’re going to have a bunch of sick calves," he said. "They were pretty dehydrated."

Hartwell has a herd of around 120 cattle, including 80 calves that are between 3 and 7 weeks old.

He tried to take the pickup truck out this afternoon, but got it stuck. Then he fired up the tractor and picked his way around waist-high drifts.

It took about three hours to punch a hole through to the pasture and unbury the hay for his cattle to eat again, he said.

"We may lose some calves out of this storm, Hartwell said, "but we’re also going to get some moisture to make the grass grow so I guess it’s kind of a trade."
