UNITED STATES-BEEF BONER OF THE YEAR.
A Sioux Falls man, Jesse Selland, has won the title of 2009 National Meat-Cutter of the Year. They would all have a long way to go catching up with John McKentee of Crossmaglen in Northern Ireland, who would speed bone 30 cattle every day (120 quaters) drink a bottle on brandy at night, then repeat his performance the next day. John hit these numbers for well over 20 years in various meat plants in Ireland.
Selland, who works at Texas Roadhouse in Sioux Falls , defeated five other national finalists in a competition held this week in San Francisco .
Each contestant received an equal amount of beef and was judged on quality, yield and speed. Selland had the most steaks with the highest quality cut in the least amount of time.
The first prize was $20,000.
