UNITED STATES-CLEANING UP THE USDA AND FDA.
The Obama Administration’s proposal to merge the
federal government’s two main food safety agencies is not a realistic
possibility, the chairman of the House of Representatives Agriculture Committee
said Monday. Rep. Collin Peterson, D-Minn., said that he’d like to see the U.S.
Department of Agriculture take over all of the food safety responsibilities of
the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, but that prospect is too unwieldy and
costly. "We’re not going to have a single food safety agency," Peterson said.
