UNITED STATES-FARM REVENUES.

If Old MacDonald had a farm in Oregon last year, he probably did pretty well. According to an Oregon State University study, Oregon farmers saw their sixth straight consecutive year of growth. The Deck Family Farm is no exception."It was a great year," said Christine Deck.Resting on more than 300 acres just outside Junction City, the farm is a stunning landscape, perfect for grass-fed beef, pastured pork, chickens and goats. Deck said she credits last year’s good luck to expansion to Portland markets and loyal customers. But that growth comes with a price. KVAL News asked Deck what kind of challenges farmers face these days."Well for sure labor because we are a very intensive labor operation," said Deck. Some farms are struggling to keep the business in the family, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Decks. 17-year-old Ella spends half her day at the high school, the other, working on the farm."I love working with the animals," said Ella Deck. The farming season was over before the recession was declared. So while sales are good for now, Christine Deck said she’s curious to see what kind of an effect the current crisis has on this years revenues."If you don’t have money you are still not going to be able to buy the foods that you’d like to buy," said Deck. "So we’ll see how this year goes."It wasn’t good news for everybody. That same Oregon state study found that sales of ornamental crops like for landscaping, and forest products actually faltered last year.
