A Georgia meat packer has been sent to prison for eight months, after being found guilty of making an illegal contribution to former governor of Mississippi Ronnie Musgrave.

Nix Cawood was sentenced on Thursday on charges in relation to Mississippi Beef Processors Inc, which cost tax payers $55 million and 400 workers their jobs when the company was wound up.

The meat boss was found guilty of paying money to influence the governor, which is illegal, unless you pay the money through a lobbyist, then bribery appears to be quite acceptable given a different label.

Carwood and three other men, did however secure $55 million from the government, to build the beef plant unfortunately having built the white elephant they had no expertise in how to operate it.
