UNITED STATES-LIVING HISTORY.

Representatives of Living History Farms today issued the following statement.

Ruth Haus, President of Living History Farms said, "For 39 years, Living History Farms has offered unique historical experiences to its visitors, patrons, and tens of thousands of school children. Our utmost concern is not only the quality of their experience, but their safety.

Although it appears, from statements from disease experts, that there is no evidence this strain of flu has been contracted through contact with hogs, we are taking the following important steps as a precautionary measure.

We have relocated our historic and rare breed hogs from Living History Farms. They will be cared for by local farmers with years of experience who understand the specific needs of these rare breeds."

Mike Witmer, Agricultural Programs Manager for Living History Farms, noted that there have been no concerns about the health of the hogs at Living History Farms, and that they recently passed their annual health checks.

"The hogs at Living History Farms were recently checked by Dr. Daniel Gasche, Jr., Veterinary Medical Associates, PC and were given a clean bill of health," said Witmer.

Haus added, "Again, we have decided to take this purely precautionary step. We want everyone to feel absolutely comfortable visiting Living History Farms, and we are excited about our upcoming season that begins May 1."
