United States-Salmonella in 42 States has USDA baffled.

UNITED STATES.

USDA AND NEW SALMONELLA IN 42 STATES.

It was reported on Sunday by CNN that the outbreak of salmonella that has caused 400 people to be hospitalized in 42 states may be the result of contaminated peanut butter.

However on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials, along with the USDA and the FDA claimed they had no idea on the source of the outbreak.

The statements from all three government bodies said that " Outbreaks from a widely distributed contaminated product may cause illness across the United States, yet the identity of the contaminated product is not readily apparent". In other words we have no idea.

This indeed is quite an indictment of the systems that are in place, when the same thing happened only a couple of months ago and the blame was placed on tomato’s, that can only carry salmonella on the skin.

The USDA official report on the last serious outbreak, blamed a carton of peppers from Mexico, which was not possible plausible or realistic as again the germ could have only been carried on the skin of the pepper.

The outbreak can only have occurred by incorrect handling by human touch, somewhere along the food chain, between the farm and the kitchen, according to John Sharkey, who has 45 years experience in meat and food inspection in England.
